GEO agencies charge roughly $1,500 to $50,000+ per month in 2026, according to WebFX's published cost guide, and most of them will not tell you that until the second call. Here are our own published ranges, the market figures to check them against, and the four things that actually move a quote.

The short answer

Two numbers decide almost everything: a one-off setup that fixes the foundations, then a monthly retainer for the work that earns and holds citations. WebFX's 2026 cost guide puts agency GEO retainers at $1,500 to $5,000 a month for small businesses, $5,000 to $25,000+ for mid-sized ones and $25,000 to $50,000+ at enterprise scale, with project work between $5,000 and $50,000. Our grid sits at the low end of that, and it is published rather than quoted on request:

What the monthly actually pays for

  • Measurement across engines: whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews name you for the questions your buyers actually ask, tracked over time rather than once.
  • Content that can be lifted: answer-first pages a model can quote as a self-contained claim, not paragraphs that need the rest of the page to make sense.
  • Entity and structured-data work, so the engines agree on who you are, what you sell and where you operate.
  • Third-party presence: the sources a model already trusts have to mention you, and that is off-site work, not a page you can publish.
  • Crawler access and real server-rendered HTML, because some AI crawlers still do not execute JavaScript.

Why the range is that wide

What drives it upWhy it costs more
Site sizeEvery page that should be quotable needs its own answer-first structure. There is no bulk discount on thinking.
LanguagesEach language is a separate set of queries, a separate set of engine answers and its own content.
CompetitionIn a market where three competitors are already cited, you are displacing an incumbent answer, not filling a gap.
Off-site authorityEarning mentions on sources a model trusts is the slowest and least automatable part of the work.
Measurement depthWeekly tracking across several engines is a real recurring cost, not a toggle on a dashboard.

Cheap, or just not an agency?

You will read that any GEO retainer under a few thousand a month is repackaged SEO. Sometimes that is exactly what it is. It is also how an agency with a dozen salaried people explains a floor it cannot go below. So ask what the money buys rather than what it costs: which engines are tracked, how often, whether you get the raw queries and dated screenshots, and who writes the content. If the answer is a monthly PDF and no engine data, the price was never the problem.

Ours is lower for two boring reasons. There is no agency layer between you and the person doing the work, and the grid is published, so there is no discount ritual to fund.

How to buy this without overpaying

  • Start with a measurement, not a proposal. If you do not know which questions you are absent from, you cannot tell an honest scope from an inflated one.
  • Ask for the baseline in writing: the queries, the engines, the date, the screenshots. That is the thing you re-measure against later.
  • Refuse anything sold on a guaranteed position. Nobody controls what a model answers, and a guarantee mostly signals that the seller knows you cannot check.
  • Buy the retainer month to month before you buy a year of it.
  • Expect a 6 to 12 month compounding curve. A programme judged at week four gets cancelled just before it works.

Is it worth it at all?

Only if your buyers ask questions an assistant can answer. In 2026, fewer than a third of Google searches still send a click to the open web (SparkToro, on Similarweb panel data), and when an AI Overview appears, click-through to the results roughly halves, from about 15% to about 8% (Pew Research Center). If your category is already being answered without a visit, this spend defends revenue you have. If your buyers still click their way to you, GEO is an early bet rather than an emergency.

FAQ

How much does GEO cost per month?
Market retainers run from about $1,500 a month for a small business to $25,000+ a month at enterprise scale (WebFX, 2026). Our published monthly for export clients starts below that market floor, and the full grid is on the pricing page. Every figure there is anchored in work already delivered, not a headline rate.
Is GEO cheaper than SEO?
Not systematically, and the comparison is a trap: GEO sits on top of technical SEO instead of replacing it. What changes is where the effort goes, toward quotable answers, entities and third-party mentions rather than link volume and keyword coverage.
Can I do GEO myself?
The foundations, yes: answer-first structure, structured data, letting AI crawlers in. What is hard to do yourself is the measurement across engines and the off-site authority, because one is relentlessly repetitive and the other takes relationships.
Do you guarantee I will be cited?
No, and treat anyone who does as a warning sign. What we commit to is a measured baseline, a published method and a re-measure you can check. Expect a 6 to 12 month compounding curve, not a switch.
